Summary
Before the 6 months of silence post Sochi, there was the dismissal of any significance of anything Shane and Ilya might had between them.
Shane Hollander decides he is tired of waiting for a certain Russian lover to give his life meaning. He travels with his mother to visit his Obasan one last time before she passes. There he is introduced the Japanese tattoo art of Irezumi. The flowing lines, deep dark colours and sense of solidarity he experiences with his heritage bring him an inner peace he only ever found after letting Rozanov into his bed.
What follows is a journey of half Asian man finding his roots, delving into the subcultures in his mother’s homeland and bone-deep satisfaction he gets going into a sub space like trance with every coloured artwork he adds to his body.
Nobody sees at first – he is good at getting in early and getting on his compression gear before anyone comes in.
He is good at being the last one to leave after a game, citing tape, coach discussions, media et al
Until somebody he isn’t quite sure deserves it, gets a glimpse and then almost demands more.
And through this journey Shane discovers that he can’t quit Ilya
