Summary
The trip to Erid had felt long; it was always longer when the anticipation grew. Rocky had done well as an Eridian teacher, but Grace was only picking up so much of their language. Part of the issue stemmed from the fact that he had one set of vocal cords. He was pretty good at understanding Rocky, but he knew this was because Rocky spoke in a slow, calculated way for Grace to understand. So it had been agreed that upon arrival, Rocky would do all the talking.
Then the Hail Mary had been assaulted with what Grace liked to call space debris. The ship had rattled and rolled, but he had managed to right it quickly. Not quick enough, however, as Rocky had been thrown around within his xenonite walls, and had banged himself up pretty badly. He had held on to consciousness long enough to tell Grace he'd be fine, to continue to be a brave human and talk to the other Eridians for them, and once the doctors helped him, he'd be fine.
"He better be fine," Grace muttered under his breath, forcing himself to take slow, deep breaths in hopes of calming his racing heart, "Or I'll bring him back just to kill him."
