Summary
He held her hand across the table for nary a second before he made his excuses, retreated to his alcove. His head rang with the words she didn’t say, the words that haunted him for the rest of the night. Better the devil you know.

Summary
What if the first time Deanna Troi and Will Riker meet is on the bridge of the USS Enterprise and at the moment they lock eyes, the imzadi bond snaps into place?
What if the imzadi bond is a rare, deep mind and soul connection only thought possible between two Betazoids? And what if denial of that bond leaves the couple at risk for slowly going insane?
Commander Will Riker is ambitious and gregarious, with a quick mind, but he’s focused on his career and has no interest in an intense empathic bond - no matter how enticing he finds Counselor Deanna Troi.
Counselor Deanna Troi is intelligent and caring, and trying hard to prove herself away from the aristocracy and royalty of Betazed. She’s utterly unprepared for the imzadi bond, and especially unprepared for Will Riker - a man whom she would never have chosen for herself, but now is unable to stop thinking about.

Summary
“Evenin’, Miss Riley,” was the first thing he ever said to her, a tip of his hat and a shine in his eyes that she couldn’t place at the time.
“How do you know my name?” Una had asked, books held tight to her chest, sun low on the horizon behind him lighting up Christopher Pike like some sort of angel rising from the dust of the town’s main road, swarm of flies buzzing in the horse dung near his boots notwithstanding.
He’d chuckled, a fine sound. Thin, but fine, as if chuckling didn’t come easily to him but he’d practiced.
Una could appreciate practice at fitting in.

Bookmarker's Notes
An AU where the trope is the structure, not the gimmick. So so gorgeous.
