It’s not that Shen Qingqiu wants to die. He really doesn’t – in fact, he’s spent a lot of time and energy arranging an escape route to avoid such an outcome. He’s more than willing to sacrifice his status, wealth, and frankly his dignity if it means preserving his sorry life. He’ll scheme, plot, and otherwise channel his inner evil advisor Grima Wormtongue style – missing eyebrows, forked tongue and all – if it means survival.
But if all else fails, and the alternatives are a quick death by his own hand or a long, torturous one at Luo Binghe’s, the answer is pretty damn obvious.

“Scary stories?” Ming Fan grimaces. He looks a little pale, and Luo Binghe is all too eager to feign enthusiasm just to irritate him. He doesn’t do it, however, trying to remain neutral. Shizun would want that. Shizun would tell him to keep a calm mind and not be deliberately provocative. “Trapped in a dark catacomb, in a cursed mausoleum? Ning-shimei, isn’t that a terrible idea?”... or, Luo Binghe hears some campfire horror stories, one of which sounds suspiciously identical to the entity that replaced the cruel Shen Qingqiu and became his beloved Shizun. Yet, knowing Shizun’s true supernatural identity shouldn’t change anything for him.

This immediate peppering of worried questions would be enough to clue Shen Qingqiu in that something has happened, but that isn’t necessary at all, actually - a single glance at Luo Binghe is enough to tell him that much. His little white lotus, his sweet young bun who should be no older than seventeen, has sprouted into a fully grown adult man! His shoulders broadened and his face clear of any last lingering remnants of childishness, he looks like a darkly handsome young man.
