Summary
The one night stand Jim Kirk has with the Vulcan passing through Riverside is a welcome break from the monotony. It's good, very good, but so fucking weird Jim's sure he's never gonna forget it. He's not quite expecting to run into Spock again in San Francisco. A second one night stand turns into a weekend, turns into a lot of weekends, turns into Bones joking that he's living half his week at Spock's apartment.
But! But, and this is very important: they're not dating.
What also turns out to be important is Spock's job, which Jim never bothered getting the details of. Starfleet Officer and a bartender-slash-bouncer? That's fine. Starfleet Academy Instructor and cadet? ...Less fine.

There is love between them, the way the story tells it, grown slowly but surely, yet Yoongi cannot help but doubt that that is truly enough to undo the woodcutter’s original subterfuge.
The thought does not leave him. He lets Namjoon buy him the book, but it weighs heavy in his hands as he carries it.
Is Namjoon not just like the woodcutter, kind at heart and caring, yet ultimately undeserving of his spouse? Is Yoongi not like the fairy, only more aware of his unjust fate and therefore more unforgiving?

The tally is long. Shane has been keeping it for a long time.
He is afraid that one day Ilya will look up from what he's building and feel the weight of what he's put down for it. He is afraid that love is not protection against regret. He is afraid that being chosen does not mean being worth it — that those are two separate questions, and you don't always get to see the answer to the second before the first one has already cost something. He is afraid that Ilya will do the math one day and find Shane on the wrong side of it, and that by then there will be nothing Shane can do except watch it happen.
