Summary
Kaeya fears the day he'll inevitably be forced to choose. The day he weighs which family he values more and which cause he's willing to fight for.
Ajax contemplates who he really is, and if it's even possible to keep those he held dearest within his blood-stained arms.
A boy with the red scarf played a vital role in shaping who Kaeya is today and who he will be in the future far before they've exchanged a single word. Their fates intertwined before they fully understood what fate even meant.
Though Kaeya relates the boy to the life he left in the past, he comes back and throws Kaeya in for a loop, just as he did the first time.
Ajax walked out of the abyss with a broken sword, a missing innocence, and a golden pin of a boy he never knew.
With his identity scattered, he would've never expected the mystery from his past to be the path to salvation.

.A self-indulgent fic on Kaeya and Childe's childhoods, the way their path crossed in more ways than one, and how they slowly find what they lost long ago; by each other's side, to the dismay of everyone involved.

(late) Day 2: Stranded | Bear Trap | Lost in the Woods "It's dangerous to go alone.
Diluc knew the guy's limits pretty well, and Kaeya knew that Diluc knew. He had acted accordingly, planned and precise. Kaeya had obviously came here with the goal of getting wasted.
But why?
Sure, Kaeya liked to drink, and sure, he definitely had an alcohol problem, but regardless, Kaeya didn't like getting drunk. He didn't like being vulnerable and helpless, didn't like losing control at such measures.
"Kaeya is going to walk out of the city." Rosaria said flatly. "He's pretty drunk." Diluc furrowed his brows. Where the hell was he planning on going at this hour? "Knew you'd like to know."
Well, Rosaria was right. Diluc did want to know. Diluc was going to find him, drag him back into the city by the ear and get his answers.

Alhaitham sinks his hands into the tangle of eels and scritches randomly. How long was he out for? His avatar still needs its rest. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for him to have slept a few days away. The eels wriggle happily under his hands. Underground as they are, it's hard to assess the time of day.
It's fine either way. Being notoriously treacherous, it's not uncommon for travelers to take much longer than expected to complete expeditions in the desert. He can always say he was waylaid by wenuts. It's not even a lie.
