When Sarah started walking she would run right off from his side daily, desperate for freedom in the way a little kid who don’t know the dangers of the world always is. She’d once been playing in the yard at their old house and decidedly turned on a dime, marching straight for the paved asphalt of their street. She’d been fit to be tied when he’d caught up with her, indignant and shaking with a brewing tantrum that he’d stopped her from going where she liked. More patient man that he was then, he’d taken that anger in stride. Better a tiny pissed off toddler than a run over one.
He’d happily suffer Ellie’s anger in exchange for her safety.
It was never that simple with his second daughter, though.
