Summary
Just as McCrane fired his first shot, the enemy robot shot back. Almost instantly. McCrane staggered back, as he was hit in the fuel tank, all while watching his shot ricochet off of the other robot as if it were a rubber ball. He should’ve known better, he was barely a threat without the rest of the build team there to combine with him. After all, they were meant to be together, not solo.
Or:
McCrane struggles to fit in with the rest of the Build Team, leading to him isolating himself. A surprise attack makes him realize that maybe this isn't the life he wants for himself, but is it too late?

Oh no! It all went wrong. Down she went, and goodbye Cliffjumper. And some others. But they don't matter, unless your Soundwave. Aka get on the magic school bus! Because it’s time for an accidental field trip to earth! Or the afterlife (who knows? We sure don’t). And Megs’ two favorite man whores fuck off to the autobots, ‘cuz the ‘cons don’t have dental.
Another day, another fight. But this one ends them up on Earth. Devastation flows through both sides, and many of the mechs grieve those they have lost. Well, most of them. But as time goes on, Soundwave gets hit with the destaving truth.
Starscream was right.
Now, the two of them must leave behind all they knew, all they know, to go try and save those they care for from the same fate they themselves sent most mechs too.

It was extraordinarily difficult to keep the four of them together, physically or otherwise. He bore the burden, day after day, to think before every action as if he were playing a real-life strategy simulator.
“They would not be themselves, either, without you.” Duke finished the statement. “Your decisions are all intertwined, and you have… grown together. It’s very special.”
He had that faraway look in his optics again. Homesickness. McCrane smiled.
“Like with you and the Scotland Yard.”
Duke looked as if he’d tasted something sour.

Summary
Ryland Grace is Not Doing Well.
He’s consulted a medical textbook. He’s definitely malnourished, as expected, but he also thinks he might have scurvy, which is. Uh.
He’s attempting to make light of it. Well. He’s attempting not to make anything of it at all. They only have what, ten more days until they reach Erid? And once they’ve got to Erid, Rocky has reassured him, told him again and again and again that the best minds on Erid will fix him, will work out a way to feed him, that they’ll help.
So he just has to make it through those ten more days. With scurvy. No big deal. Who hasn’t lived with scurvy before? If he thinks real hard about it, he’s just a pirate, at the end of the day. A space pirate. A space pirate who pillaged another planet for their resources and has now got scurvy as a form of divine retribution for crimes against Taumoeba (eating it) and Astrophage (getting Taumoeba to eat it.)
He’s Jack Sparrow. What the hey, sure.
