Pete is running late again. Which isn’t surprising, by any means. The only issue is that he has a kinda, super, really important deposition that morning. A deposition that his client’s entire career depends on. When he looks up he notices an unfamiliar face sitting in a sad excuse of an office. Basically the size of a broom closet. It’s for the paralegal. Except, instead of the usual scary old woman that Pete avoids on a daily basis, it’s a lanky man, about his age, with mousy brown hair and glasses that you’d only see on sexy secretaries.

Pete doesn’t mind being an editorial assistant, even if it means bringing people coffee instead of writing actual reports. It’s not like he’s particularly interested in whatever the newspaper writes about anyways. Heroes, villains, grandmas who won the lottery, blah blah blah. It all starts to sound the same by the fifth paper.
Mikey is a breath of fresh air and Pete wants to know everything about him. But Mikey has a secret that Pete can't quite figure out.

Mikey still had about a week before actually meeting Peter for their first simulation training session, though it wasn’t like he had much to prepare considering he’d done most of the work the night prior. The procedures were finalized, the failure trees updated, the simulator slot already blocked out in the schedule. There was nothing left to tweak without inventing problems that didn’t exist yet.
