Summary
Drumant: Similar to a tarantula in size and appearance, the Drumant also sports a scorpion-like tail. These creatures are extremely dangerous; aggressive in nature and quick to bite, made all the more dangerous with its deadly venom. Drumants are incredible camouflagers, they can warp light around themselves, very nearly rendering themselves invisible to the naked eye. Known to by sensitive to strong smells, fresh garlic mixed with sawdust and sprinkled liberally on the floor around one's self will both repel Drumants and show a clear path should the Drumant disturb the sawdust.

*Alternate Universe where Vanessa broke from the Fablehaven gang at some point before Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary.While hunting down a bounty, Vanessa comes across a fraught scene deep in the Florida everglades. She takes action and steps back into proximity of people who are within their right to want her dead.
I read Fablehaven when it came out and only just had an idea to write about it more than ten years later. I also haven't read it since. BUT I was sucker for Vanessa and Warren so why not?

He’s not sure why he’s so surprised – the Drakes are known for their work in archeology, and not much of that can be done locally. Still, he assumed that they took Timothy with them when they left the country for work. It seems a shame to leave him with a nanny this close to Christmas.
“Okay,” he says, erasing the numbers typed into his phone. “What’s your nanny’s number, then?”
“My what?” Timothy looks scandalized.
“Your babysitter? Whoever is in charge of you while your parents are gone,” he clarifies.
“I’m in charge of me when my parents are gone,” Timothy says proudly, his little chest puffing out. “I’m the Man of the House.”
