The Nasty Burger explosion still kills Danny's family and friends despite changing the circumstances. He runs away from Vlad and the future Clockwork once showed him. Alone and grieving, Danny finds himself on a different Earth, one with heroes and metas. After Phantom is gravely wounded on a mission with the Titans, he was surprised to wake up. Even more surprising, he finds himself in the care of Bruce Wayne who is definitely more than he appears.
Or: Danny bonds with Bruce, Dick and Jason over grief. He learns it's ok to not be ok, and there's people who care about him.

Spluttering — both from his response and the glove that stinks now way too close to her nose — Steph flails for a moment. By the time she's got herself back in order, Tim's standing. And, because he ran comms, Tim's already in his lounge wear. He starts for the stairs.
"Wait!" Chasing after him, Steph tries to push her hair from her face. "Come back here, what do you mean you won't be stag?"

Jason Todd is many things: hero, smartass, wicked cool crimelord, world’s prettiest omega, zombie(?). Everybody knows that. What they don’t know is that he’s also a giant lovebug. Prime tells him as much as he crawls into Prime’s oversized hoodie with Prime still in it, stretching the fabric of the cotton collar where it’s worn thin and soft.
“Yeah, whatever,” Jason says, because at some point very early on in their relationship he developed the essential ability to tune out Prime’s inane rambling. Then he asks: “Do you care if I put you in one of my contingency plans?”
“Nuh-uh,” Prime says, drunk on the scent of contented omega.
“Cool. Next time I go into heat, you can join,” Jason says.
Prime obtains an omega, a pack, and a dam. It’s a weird week. He’s so friggin’ into it.

Set after BotW, it begins with the sale of a very large horse to an equally large Gerudo man named Draga and only gets more wonderful from there.
I didn’t have to think about it; this is *the* fanfic to me. Easily the one fic I would save if the library were burning, so to speak, without hesitation. This fic is not even in my primary fandom—hell, it’s probably not even a fandom I would have ever really chosen to read fic in if this hadn’t been recced to me. But it is so *beautiful*. It is a beautiful story full of all sorts of things I love (connection across lifetimes, defying fate, fighting against evil, love) wrapped in the sort of poetic, surreal, dreamlike prose that fanfiction in particular does really really well.

It’s an actual masterpiece. And I’ve reread it many times.

Summary
Apoptosis- Form of cell death, also known as programmed cell death, in which a ‘suicide’ program is activated within the cell. It is a normal phenomenon, occurring frequently in a multicellular organism.
For all intents and purposes, the Lazarus Pit works. It brings Jason Todd back to life, back to sanity. It stitches together old wounds and grants a second chance to Gotham's Red Hood. The only side effects are temporary catatonia, then equally temporary insanity. The Lazarus Pit works perfectly.
Then, it doesn't.
