Watching the video becomes Kurapika’s bedtime routine. He grows familiar with it, memorizing timestamps the way you might memorize a neighbor’s face. At 1:03, Leorio takes his dick out. At 3:01, he plays with his nipples. At 4:04, Leorio jostles the camera, revealing his mouth for six seconds before he notices and adjusts the angle.
Kurapika watches those six seconds like he’s studying scripture. Replays them so often it becomes a meditation. Watches for the quirk of a smile when Leorio moves to adjust the camera angle, not embarrassed exactly, but a little shy.

Something cold and ugly twisted in the pit of Qifrey’s stomach. He tried to push any words out of his throat, but they stubbornly stuck against his teeth.
Qifrey finds Olruggio poured against the floor of the inn they were staying in, grappling with the ache of loneliness.

Summary
Kurapika shouldn’t answer his phone. It’s too late, for one thing, already half past two in the morning. “Nothing good happens after midnight” is an adage with which Kurapika is so familiar that they drink from the same water bottle and don’t mind sharing a hotel bed. For another, he’s accompanying Light Nostrade to a breakfast meeting tomorrow and should at least try to get some sleep. And third, it’s Leorio’s name that blinks up at him.
On the first ring, Kurapika tears himself away from the profile he’s putting together on a flesh collector confirmed to have one of the scarlet eyes. On the second, he watches his phone convulse on the desk in his hotel room and considers rejecting the call to put it out of its misery. The third ring reminds him of the way Leorio sounds right after waking, with a sandpaper voice and a laugh like a jackhammer, gravel stuck in the back of his throat until he drinks enough coffee. He answers on the fourth.
“Oh shit,” says Leorio. “I didn’t think you’d pick up.”

Kurapika made no move.
“What, do you expect me to just forgive you, like I always have? Just wait around for you, like I always do? Well, I’m not going to, this time! I may have wanted you here, but don’t think it means anything between us.”
What a pathetic lie. “Why did you never stop calling me, then?”
The challenge flushed Leorio’s face deep red. “Be—because—because I still care! You’re my friend, Kurapika. I can wanna kill you without wanting you dead.”

Olruggio had spent half his life learning to read these offerings and in doing so he had become the foremost scholar of a language spoken by exactly one person in all the world.
"I'm stubborn because someone has to be," he said. "You'd float away on your own mysteries if no one kept you tethered."
"Perhaps." The maddingly sad smile again. "Perhaps that's so."
In which Olruggio brings tea to Qifrey's study on a damp evening and finds him working in the dark again, the staff out and the fire dying.

Wen Kexing had found the plant by chance in the forest, stumbled across it in a dim green hollow. He was by no means a healer and as a poisoner he was indifferent, but he had learned to recognise plants from his mother and maintained the knowledge for largely paranoid reasons. This one was a curiosity taken on its own; with the addition of the right ingredients it could become a truly alarming interrogation drug, but otherwise its effect was very mild. He had collected it thinking only of some small game that they might play, he and A-Xu. They played games often. They scuffled and prodded and tried their luck, and all of it, always, made Wen Kexing feel brilliantly alive—and so why should this game have been any different?
Wenzhou play an ill-advised game, and reveal more of themselves than is comfortable.
