Briefly, Harold considers sharing that the Oracle of Delphi had found her purpose by inhaling noxious fumes through a fissure in the earth, and that it eventually drove her mad – but something tells him that Root wouldn't enjoy that particular piece of trivia in the spirit he intends it.

Collecting all the works I've posted that are excerpts from longer WIPs, including:
- scenes that I like but that no longer fit into the larger fic,
- chapters/scenes I was struggling to complete,
- silly/comedic versions of scenes that I ended up making more serious in tone,
- unpolished writer's block breakers,

Summary
On the bed was a body. Nott cringed slightly, wondering if the body was dead and why the guards had not gotten rid of it. She approached it curiously, figuring that she could at least eat it if the human guards did not take it away, although upon closer inspection she could see the gentle rise and fall of its chest as it laid there on the bed, curled up towards the wall with its hands covering its head.
Nott did not bother the body and the body did not bother Nott. Neither of them said anything to one another for perhaps several hours or so, but after a while the silence was starting to get to her.

The weak ones are easy kills, she remembered her clan leader telling her as they aimed their crossbow at a fawn. A little baby, speckled thing with big eyes and a swishing tail. Injured, the word was like oil between pointed teeth, are even easier.
