Summary
He doesn't know at what point he had forgotten that they were married, but he did.
Or at least, he had forgotten that there were consequences to putting a ring on the finger of the boy who was your whole world when you were nineteen. It had always been something just between the two of them, that's what it meant to them before it meant anything legally binding.
Besides, he hadn't thought that he would ever see Jamal again.

Summary
[July 10 - 23:13 - Munich, Germany]
Kinda glad you dropped that last part, because I did maybe-sort-of stay the night. Potentially, I may have slept in your bed. I’d be more nervous to admit that if it hasn’t happened multiple times before.
I slept better than I have since before the World Cup. It was easier to imagine I was with you when I was surrounded by your things. I think every message you send me makes me more and more shameless.
Can I admit something? I’ve always wanted to hold you. We’re both reserved people, so it’s hard to read you sometimes, but I’m sure I was at least slightly obvious about this. I hope I’m not reading into the things you’ve been saying recently wrong… Go ahead and delete this voicemail from your memory if that’s the case, hahaha.
Or: Michael misses Jamal's call at the start of the 2026 World Cup season. What starts off as a one-time message devolves into a series of voicemails over the course of the summer.
