Summary
Wen Xu is not a particularly bright man. Nor is he very talented either. He is just unfortunate enough to be the eldest son of Qishan Wen, with his troublesome brother and murdersome family. His father is a pressure cooker; his mother is dead. Lots of things are happening for him. But, Wen Xu reckons, some things could be worse. For instance, he could be his distant cousin Wen Ning. He has a confidence problem. Wen Xu looks at himself in the mirror. He doesn't think he has a confidence problem.
Anyway. The point is, Wen Xu wants to not be himself anymore. He decided that killing people is maybe more trouble than it produces, and he would very much rather live a quieter life farming vegetables. Yes, farming vegetables. He's fond of turnips in particular. He does not know where cultivation would fit into this life, but he prefers the turnips.
However, there is a slightly minor issue. He cannot simply run away to be a turnip farmer. This requires some maneuvering. Shouldn't take long, right?
(It does take long. It takes insanely long. It takes so long that it's the main premise of this fic. Godspeed, Wen Xu.)

Summary
In the wake of her uncle's messy divorce, Wei Wuxian is packed up and sent away for the winter to her pastor's Church Camp out in the country to be a volunteer, helping those afflicted with sin seek God and repent. At least, that's what Yanli-jie said. Jiang Cheng said it's because Aunt Ziyuan is sick of her. It doesn't matter, anyway. She already goes to church, she'll be fine and at least she's helping someone.
It must've been karma for all her pranks, for she sees golden eyes pierce through her, she realizes that she may need God's saving more than any of the kids she's helping.
Or: Wei Wuxian learns what it truly means to be hungry.

Wen Xu to me is SUCH an underexplored character! The second-person point of view was an adjustment to read at first, but it really helps tell the story in a meaningful way. I also enjoy the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers aspect going on here. And it makes me think so much about how the rest of MDZS would have gone if this were canonical. *ੈ❀૮ . . ྀིა
