Summary
When Viktor finally asks why Jayce stayed behind inside the Anomaly with him, Jayce stares at him as though he’s supremely disappointed by the question— as if Viktor has betrayed his own brilliance by asking something so irredeemably stupid. “How could I not? We’re partners.”
Partners, Jayce calls them. Not for the first time, Viktor wonders: Partners in what?
*
Or: Jayce and Viktor survive the Hexcore, a blizzard, their own bodies, sharing a bed and all the things they’re too afraid to say. Slowly, they put themselves back together— piece by stubborn piece.

Summary
Jayce (number 0516) in Stillwater prison. He is used for pit fighting, the guards taking bets.
"Tried to look at his sponsor, submissive, through his long hair. His sponsor’s eyes made 0516 rub his wrists, digging the fingernail over and over, until it bled in the shape of an upside-down shepherd’s crook. Favourite shape. He didn’t like to disappoint. He didn’t know if he liked or disliked his sponsor, but sometimes, rare times, special times, he told 0516 he did a good job."
Viktor buys Jayce to be part of his work with Doctor Reveck. When watching Jayce as an experiment becomes too painful, they escape.

Summary
Jayce lifted Viktor’s hand to look at the engagement mark: the outline of Viktor’s own teeth below his thumb. Heedless of anyone who might have been watching, he brought Viktor’s hand to his lips and touched a kiss to the wound.
The gesture itself was quite chaste, but its placement made Viktor wonder for the first time in his life what it would feel like to have the outline of someone else’s teeth carved into his neck.
**
To broker peace, the kingdom of Zaun and the clans of Piltover agree to forge a mate-bond. They each expect the other to manipulate this bond to their advantage.
They do not expect their representative bondmates to actually like each other.
