To make matters worse (or better), they’re not the only ones stranded. Which is why they’ve ended up in a room with only one bed—for the both of them.

Merlin glances away, embarrassed. “Just….” He makes himself meet the knight’s eyes as he asks. “What’s your name?”
The man’s lips part. Despite the sword at his hip, he looks, for a brief moment, completely disarmed. Then he seems to catch himself. Snaps his mouth shut and turns to adjust something on one of the horse’s saddles.
“Arthur,” he says, voice gruff.

June…3rd? It wasn’t either of their birthdays. Not a public holiday. No one important died today.
It could only be some sort of Tony Stark tomfoolery.
He folded his arms, raising an amused brow. “I’ll bite, what’s June 3rd?”
Tony brandished a worn-looking piece of paper with a dramatic flourish. “It’s the date that you agreed to marry me, if we were both forty and unwed.”
Steve looked at the slightly yellowed paper, wide eyed, as he spotted his wonky signature in blue ink along the bottom.
Oh my god.
Or two decades ago, Steve signed a contract while under the influence, and Tony comes to collect.

Merlin raised a sceptical eyebrow. “The last time I let you sleep on the floor, you never shut up about it,” he pointed out. “You said your back hurt and your neck hurt and your arse—”
“Merlin,” Arthur growled. “That was one time, and I’d just survived a rather nasty fight with a bog witch, if you recall. I’m sure I won’t have any problems with it tonight.”
Or: Merlin and Arthur are tired and there's only one bed. Naturally, they get competitive about it.
