Shane never ran off the night of the tuna melt, but the boys still failed to have an honest conversation about any of it. Instead, they trip and fall into a whole new level of maybe-accidentally-dating situationship hell. Shane needs to confess his feelings and define the relationship.

“It really fucking hurt to just be ignored for six months.”
Ilya looks at him again, nodding as he runs his finger along Shane’s bare collarbone. He shifts so that he’s lying beside Shane more than hovering on top of him, but keeps touching him and doesn’t go far.
“You can call me sensitive or whatever, but I don’t think I can do this if you’re just going to ignore me for another six months or however long after we say goodbye tonight.” Shane continues, trying to subtly wipe his wet eyes but of course Ilya notices.
“Hollander-” He reaches up to wipe the tears away, but Shane lightly pushes his hand away and shakes his head.
“I guess I’m not cut out for casual.” He whispers. “Because this has never really felt like nothing to me, and I can’t pretend that it is. You aren’t nothing to me.”
or, the boys talk in Vegas because they can't fight their feelings anymore.

Samira grimaced, not able to imagine a situationship lasting that long. "That must have been hard for you both. I'm not into hockey, but I hear about their discrimination against queers and people of color. If you don't mind me asking, why do you stay?"
"We don't mind. At least, not anymore. Not after today." Shane said. He let a pause sit in the room, collecting his thoughts. Samira didn't burst it. "We—I stay because I love the sport. Despite everything—all their faults—hockey has always been mine. Even if I was accused of letting Ilya win—I don't think I could quit."
Ilya intertwined their hands. "Is little different for me. I'm good, so I play. Shane is there, so I stay."
He said it so simply. As if it wasn't his entire career.
"Ilya," Shane's voice dipped in emotion.
"мое солнышко, are you surprised? Don't you know the planets revolve around the sun? You learn this in grade school, yes?"
When Shane's tears began to fall, Samira exited the room without a word.
OR Ilya gets injured during a game in Pittsburgh. Samira and Shane take care of him.
