It doesn't hold the same viciousness as his earlier remark; not amiable, exactly, but thawed. Almost amused. The stranger shrugs, and, after a moment, ends up taking the seat next to him, hands still firmly stuck in his hoodie pockets.
Kunikida takes the opportunity to observe his new companion. They look nice in the venue's ruby light. The color matches their hair; crimson red curls that frame his face perfectly. Whoever they are, there's something dangerous about them—he's not sure why, or what, but his instincts scream at him, and there's a reason Kunikida's survived Yokohama's backstreets for so long. The kind of person you shouldn't mess with. Still, Kunikida can't suppress his curiosity.

In the end, it took a very short amount of time for his coworkers to warm up to Akutagawa. Maybe Atsushi shouldn't have been surprised—the Agency had a habit of befriending those from rival groups. Lucy and Kyouka were proof of that. Even Dazai had once been an enemy to the Armed Detective Agency. And he was pretty sure Sigma was joining, too.
So, yes, having a mafioso around was nothing new. Just… Akutagawa, of all people?
(Sometimes—grey eyes burning into the back of his head as he works; a heavy, knowing stare—Atsushi doesn't know how to feel about Akutagawa's presence. What do you do when the person who hates you, who despises your very existence, dies for you?
What do you do when they come back?)
Or: Post-Decay of Angels, Akutagawa begins hanging around the Armed Detective Agency more, and Atsushi can't figure out why.

Azami saw it happen, the shrapnel flying towards Shiba as he was distracted by Azami's latest stupid joke. He wasn't quick enough to shout a warning, only seeing Shiba's head fly to the side as he took a direct hit and blood splattered everywhere.
The world stopped. Just like that, he went down. The most powerful new recruit of the Kamunabi, flopping to the ground like a puppet whose strings had been cut.

He was intelligent, experienced, well-liked, and — most importantly, depending on who you asked — very handsome.
But when he wasn’t in the presence of adult eyes and ears, he didn’t restrain himself. He spoke crassly. He swore, told lewd stories, discussed sensitive topics, overshared personal details, asked intimate and invasive questions… Years later, Shiba would be able to verbalize it: the recklessness, the lack of self-control, the casual disregard for the preciousness of childhood. In Takeda’s world, all lines blurred together.

Good question. What is he going to do? He's in heat. He's in the middle of HQ, wanting Rokuhira, wanting to see Rokuhira even though he knows it's wrong. Even though Rokuhira belongs not to him but to Chiaki, a perfectly matched pair.
Shiba would never do anything to drive them apart. He'd do anything to keep them together, even if it means ignoring the possibility of having one of them. Both of them.

“Hey,” Shiba said, deceptively casual, glancing at Chihiro from the corner of his eye as he drove. “There’s no shame in saying you want to back out. We’ll find a different way.”
He pulled a face. “I’m not a little kid anymore, Mr. Shiba.”
“I’m being serious. Think about it. Are you sure you’re ready?”
Chihiro already knew his answer… but he did as he was asked and gave it serious consideration. This wasn’t a game, least of all to him. He might have to fight. Maybe even kill. But he’d already killed before, and was starting to get used to the feeling of someone else’s blood on his skin.
“I can do it, Mr. Shiba,” he said.
“…Alright,” he said softly, almost resignedly. “Alright.”
