Fundy held Wilbur's hand as they walked. More often than not he asked to be carried, though before the apocalypse he’d argued that he was too big for it. His little legs couldn’t handle the pace Wilbur set. His feet sprouted blisters. His fingers grew pale, bloodless, bitten by the cold.
Wilbur tugged his hat down around his ears, bundled him in coats until he waddled, but body heat was a poor substitute for sunlight, and it grew colder the longer they traveled. Whatever stopgap measures the world’s mages were using to hold in the climate, they weren’t working anymore.
Earth was careening towards the unlivable.

Summary
Sapnap is easy.
He screams fire in Tubbo’s mind, but Tubbo had burn scars before he died, his own collagen armor, so he's inoculated to it. This is the way plants feel, Tubbo imagines, when they recall being moved from the greenhouse to the outside world. You survive so much more than you think you can, once you're thrown into the thick of it with no defenses. The term for that is hardening off.
Sapnap never inoculated himself from possession, though. Tubbo slips under his skin with ease.

Tubbo drifted down from the high walls with a quick incantation, landing in the packed mud of the path outside of the castle. It was early morning. The air tasted dense with last night's rain. Other smells were smothered under the petrichor, but he could follow them, if he wanted. Down to the markets and past the merchants' quarter, beyond the noble enclaves and the slums, way out to the open gates of the capitol. He could keep walking.
His guard wouldn't stop him. It would make things easier for Dream, if the prince ran away.
One more body in a ditch by the roadside, half-devoured and stripped of anything gleaming, was no one's lookout, really. Someone might bury it, but all they'd see was an unlucky victim of dragon season, not the heir to the throne. Dream might even send someone to hurry that fate along.
