Summary
The stranger finds himself in an office. It must be an office, surely, even if the hundreds and hundreds of books and ticking clocks are disruptive forces, painting an incongruent image of what he remembers an office is supposed to look like.
(What he remembers, barely, is the image of tatami mats and the distinctive sound of wind blending in with bright-sounding bells. And the everlasting swaying of the sea, up and down, urging him to go further west, west west west, to those foreign lands so far away from the bustling port of Shanghai.)
or, an examination of the masked apprentice and his thoughts.

“‘s just. Sometimes I get reminded. That I don’t - that I don’t do… that.” His mouth works sluggishly, he's chewing on his own words. “And I know that it doesn’t matter, not really, but sometimes it - does. I guess.”
He opens his eyes again and spares a glance at Wilde who is frowning, brows furrowed. Zolf lets out a heavy breath.
or, a discussion about being different.

Summary
“This –” Kay points at Ema, her finger waggling in a flawless imitation of Prosecutor Edgeworth, “– just won’t do.”
“Excuse me?” Ema inquires, a bit irritated now. She would like to ponder her current predicament in peace, thank you very much.
Kay sighs dramatically, one hand pressed to her cheek now. “I’m leaving in a few hours and you’re miserable. I mean, I am too, but that doesn’t mean we can’t see the bright side of this situation.”
“Alright then, humour me.” Ema leans back into her chair, crossing her arms. “What’s so good about your departure and me having to go back home alone to my shared flat which, as you know, doesn’t even have proper heating, only to look at my desk knowing that I need to keep studying for an exam that I will probably fail anyway?”
or, Kay is leaving and Ema is feeling down. Thankfully, her girlfriend is always ready to cheer her up.

Later, when Trucy returns from school, Apollo tells her about her father’s peculiar reactions. Trucy only laughs delightedly.
“Polly! Haven’t you noticed?” she asks cheekily.
“Noticed what?”
“The plot of this episode! It’s like, a direct parallel to what happened between Daddy and Mr Edgeworth!”
Oh. Oh.
or, Apollo and Klavier watch a German crime show. Apollo is intrigued. Mr Wright is too.

Summary
“Ah, I do believe I owe you an apology, my dear fellow.” There’s still that playful edge to the detective's voice but it’s overlaid by a sudden graveness and an astonishing sincerity.
“What for?”
“Well, for not telling you about Iris, naturally.”
Barok’s heart stops for a second. Straight to the point, then.
or, Barok takes Iris up on her offer and a detective is feeling remorseful. Only slightly, of course.

Summary
“You can look at me,” Riza says, and he does. He looks at her hair come loose, follows it to her neck and shoulders where the dress straps should fall off but don’t, and remembers the taste of her chest and the planes of her waist against his palm, and just how much his nails can sink into her hips before she gasps. He knows how her legs feel both shaven and prickly, knows the rub of her calves on his forearms, and loves the calluses of her feet tied up with satin shoes.
“It hasn’t become real yet,” Mustang tells her. "It still feels like a long intel mission."

If there were no fraternization laws, they'd be married by now. But there are fraternization laws--and securing political alliances means Roy and Riza must put an end to their covert romance.
Should put an end to it.

Grantaire’s life goes to hell at 5pm on a Saturday evening.
Which is actually kind of ironic, really, seeing as how the rest of the world went to hell almost seven years earlier.

Summary
The accusation the Truth had levelled at him had stung, but it had been — well, true. He’d trusted, blindly, in men who’d only been trustworthy according to some bullshit metric cryptically communicated to him by an old man with his own agenda. He’d trusted his contingencies and his double-blinds, his schemes and his whisper network. And what did all that get him? He’d completely lost the capacity to care for those who had entrusted themselves to him, much less the whole country he’d been proud enough to envision under his wing.
Can he really become worthy of their faith again? Does he have any capacity to care and to protect, now that the illusions have all been stripped away?
“I’ll be back in the morning, sir,” says the one person whose answer he already knows.Or: in the ten days after Roy leaves the hospital, he learns how to cook an egg blind, loses his comfortable pants, prepares for his reinstatement evaluations, dreams of Maes Hughes dying, ponders the domestic applications of flame alchemy, second-guesses everything he ever believed about his role in his country's future, and moves in with his lieutenant.
