The memory stabs through Clark’s heart, cold as ice. All Clark has known since he was a kid is fear, he knows it intimately, but this twist in his gut, the bitter taste in his mouth is something new. As if his body instinctively knows that what is affecting Lex is different. It crawls up his skin, thick and smoldering, the scent of sage seeming to cling to him.

Smallville Clex Week 2026 | June 9th | Prompt: Truth/Memory
In an attempt to retrieve his lost memories, Lex inadvertently resets his own brain back to its factory settings and reverts back to his 23-year-old self at the exact moment his mind was wiped at Belle Reve in 2003. He wakes up alone and confused in 2016 with no idea that he and Clark are enemies and absolutely no recollection of the many ways they've hurt each other.
Clark's memories, on the other hand, are still completely intact. He knows exactly what went wrong between them, and he refuses to make the same mistakes twice.
The truth, and their inability to tell it, is what tore Clark and Lex's relationship apart. Now it's the only thing that can bring them back together.

It’s agony. The feeling of nausea mixing low in his belly, something like fear, acrid and writhing in his veins, in his mind. It eats him alive, one nerve at a time. As if he’s on fire, being consumed as he stands, knees weak and buckling beneath him. He holds the Kryptonite tight in his fist, feels a phantasm of it burning his palm even with his powers gone.
Below all of that, fear and anxiety gnaw at him, make every excruciating moment burn through his body. He can hear every thump of his heart, every step planted on the floor. Every single one taking him closer to Eric, to getting his powers back. To Lex.

Summary
Lex refuses to acknowledge the stinging in his eyes, to show that level of weakness. How affected he is by the realization that Clark doesn't know him. He wrestles with the hollow ache threatening to swallow him whole until it submits, forcing it into the ancient lead box in his mind and locking it tight.
He sends the stranger wearing Clark's face a lopsided smile. "I'm a friend."
Clark blinks once. "You can take me to the sign?"
Lex turns away again, not trusting his expression as he says, "What are friends for?"
