In eighteen years of living she had never looked in the mirror and been this happy with what looked back at her, and she didn’t know what to do other than to cry and throw herself into Alice’s arms. Alice held her close, running her fingers through her hair and kissing the top of her head, and Evangeline couldn’t imagine how this day could go better than this.
And then, the door opened.
“Hey, is Alice—” Alex, one of Evangeline’s dads, paused in the doorway. He took in the sight of his child and their best friend standing there, Evangeline in a dress, and Evangeline wished she could just vanish into thin air.
