"It's the dragon-bond," Egg said, biting his lip. "Uncle fainted on the battlefield—"

"He didn't faint," Dunk protested, sure of little else but sure of that at least. "What about the dragon-bond? What dragon-bond?"

"All right, when he fell down," Egg said with a put-upon sigh, "You caught him. And when we found you—" He spread his hands, looking like his brothers and father and cousins all at once. "Sorry, ser."

"You mean to tell me—" Dunk looked back at the door, but Baelor was far beneath them now, walking through the Holdfast with his head aching and the only way Dunk could know that was—

“Did you forget the little encounter we had on the road to Rosby?”
    “I did not.”
The simplicity of his answer has the cogs turning in Gwayne’s head. He thinks Criston has gone mad, he thinks his outward hostility has turned to a death wish. “Dragonstone and their dragons are just across the bay… what? Grown tired of living, have you?”
After having almost been driven mad by him, Criston now holds Gwayne in the palm of his hand, along with all the answers the man hadn’t been able to pry from him. “Are you afraid, Ser?” he asks, and can hear the weight in his own tone, the subtle invitation to escalate.
Neither man breaks eye contact, and Gwayne draws ever closer to Criston’s horse. “Worse, I’m rational.” His eyes are wide and round, a stormy mix of greys and blues, begging to be let in or let go.

    “We advance.”
