Summary
When Alec comes over straight after work that evening, it's to find Magnus and his warlock friends meditating over a plate of General Tso's chicken. It's a really prettily arranged dish, the chicken pieces glazed with a shiny, translucent brown sauce and ringed by a wreath of fresh green broccoli. There are sesame seeds and spring onions sprinkled over top, and the smell is delicious.
The array and pentagram the plate is standing in the middle of is... not quite so wholesome.

Summary
Under the guidance of his doctor and mostly out of desperation due to his last annual heat being severe enough to nearly land him in the hospital, Shane Hollander knows he needs to take a heat partner for the first time if he doesn’t want to end up in a cycle facility.
With his options between hiring a comfort alpha or asking one Ilya Rozanov for help, the choice is clear to Shane. Even if it feels like he’s losing every shred of his dignity to ask his - rival? fuckbuddy? - whatever Rozanov is to help him through his heat, Rozanov is the only alpha he trusts enough to take care of him.
Rozanov is due for his own rut and is more than happy to finally, finally have heat sex with Hollander. Which is why he says yes with no hesitation. No other reason, of course.

“I need to sleep,” Ilya murmurs next to him on the bed, his voice distant.
“Yeah, me too,” Shane rushes to agree. His fingers drum against his glass of vodka and he chugs the rest in one go. “I should, uh…” He moves to stand up off the bed, the soiled towel dropping from his stomach, and his knees buckle.
Shane stumbles but remains upright, his vision blurry. But the glass in his hands slips from his trembling fingers, and, to his absolute horror, shatters all across the floor of Ilya’s penthouse suite.

After the hookup where Shane and Ilya didn’t kiss, Shane nearly passes out in his rival’s hotel room.
