“No, there are many who are better, I think,” he said, looking down at his nails – short, and bitten down to the quick. “Somebody healthy, for one. Someone you can live a long, full life with. You’re a vibrant young woman, Mari, but you have to understand. If you hitch your wagon to my star, you’re laying yourself down in a coffin.”
With a short, jagged sigh, he looked away.
Of note:
This is a TWO PART SERIES, each about 80-90K words, which is why you will see designations of Book I and Book II. I considered splitting it up into two works, but decided against it.
