What, Alhaitham thought, was that all about?
And how could he make Kaveh do it again?

Kaveh misinterprets Alhaitham-being-Alhaitham as a full-blown love confession and throws himself at his crush, quite literally.
Alhaitham has no idea what he said to cause such an interesting reaction in his prickly roommate, but he's willing to do just about anything to make it happen a second time.
Chaos ensues.

"Always." Alhaitham replied, without giving it a second thought.
"Archons, Alhaitham. Does he know you're dating him?"
Alhaitham snorted, a flush dashing across his high cheekbones. "What do you think?"
Tighnari leveled a piercing stare at Alhaitham in return. "I think you both must've fallen out of the Stupid Tree and hit every branch on the way down." He shook his head. "Come on, Alhaitham! At some point, one of you is going to have to say something!"Alhaitham figures out his sexuality at fourteen years old. It takes Kaveh nearly twice as long. That doesn't stop Kaveh from making out with Alhaitham all over Sumeru in the interim.

Three minutes and forty-three seconds. That's how late Midland City's Alhaitham was to the bar where he was supposed to stumble upon Kaveh and take him home.
One minute and twenty-four seconds. That's how long Kaveh had been gone by the time he finally arrived. The moment passed, the chance at reconciliation passing with it.
Oh well. It's not like HaiKaveh is a lode-bearing wall of the universe or anything.
Wait. Where's Tighnari? Why hasn't Zhongli showed up to temper Tartaglia's awful personality? And what are all these Rifthounds doing in the middle of Midland City? Does the whole of reality really depend on two emotionally stunted know-it-alls getting over themselves and making out?!
The Gods have a plan to fix this mess. Rip an Alhaitham who got it right out of his own world - Teyvat will do - set him down in Midland City, and tell him to hop to it with the flirting business. Right. Because Alhaitham, in any universe, is known for being so good at taking orders....
Or: A Half-AU Half-Teyvat fic where Alhaitham has to convince Kaveh to fall into his waiting arms, or the world is literally over.

"He dumped me! He said since I was already 'so clearly dating you' he couldn't see how he fit into the picture!" Kaveh flung his hands over his head for emphasis, a bright blush blooming across his face. "Can you believe that?! I thought scholars were supposed to be smart! I mean, really!"
"What an idiot," Alhaitham confirmed as he felt his own blush deepen across his features. "Who on earth would be dumb enough to think we're dating?"
"Yeah! We can't stand each other!" Kaveh shifted in Alhaitham's lap, a petulant pout gracing his features.
"Obviously." Alhaitham said, reaching up to tuck a stray strand of hair behind Kaveh's ear.

Denial must also be a river in Sumeru, because Haikaveh have been furiously rowing a boat up against that current for years.
Or, five times Kaveh ditched a date to hang out with Alhaitham, and one time Haitham did the same.
