Summary
"For you, I will remove every obstacle that keeps us apart. One day. Just know that. I won't let what you fear come to pass. I swear it."
Jinshi was in serious trouble now. With the Emperor’s children continuing to grow sick and die, he’s not sure where to go from here. The doctors were at a complete loss, and it seems that the chains of his future tighten with each passing day. At least until a young apothecary girl with sharp blue eyes, a splattering of freckles, and was as blunt as a hammer comes into his life. Despite having everything handed to him on a silver platter, Jinshi had lived a lonely and dull life where he learned to hide his true face behind a façade he presents to the court… until he meets Maomao.
For the first time, someone sees past his mask to his true self and she fills his world with color. Jinshi's feelings for Maomao evolve from initial curiosity and amusement to deep affection and romantic interest until he realized he cannot live without her.
This is going to be a retelling of the Apothecary Diaries only they’re told from Jinshi's POV, based on both the anime and light novels. (Season 1-2 of the anime, Light Novels 1-4)

Summary
Maomao is given as a concubine to the Moon Prince in an attempt to control Lakan. Jinshi is against the idea of trapping a young woman in the rear palace for her father’s poor attitude and tries his best to accommodate her as both the palace manager and as the Moon Prince. But as time drags on, he falls in love with his odd concubine and his double life poses many issues.
Maomao never expected to be part of palace life and finds it rather difficult to adapt to. That being said, she loves the new access to overflowing ingredients the palace offers, especially the extremely rare ones the Moon Prince has taken to giving her as presents. If only the meddlesome eunuch would leave her alone, he’s making things far too complicated for her liking.
(Mostly follows canon, but with Maomao as the Imperial Brother’s concubine)

Summary
Seven-year-old Maomao learned early that adults cannot be trusted; they are either predators driven by lust or flesh peddlers driven by transaction. After a traumatic close call at the Verdigris House, she retreats into the subterranean dark, discovering a hidden, ancient fortress buried beneath the capital's streets. Operating on a strict, clinical code of survival, she gathers a patchwork family of forgotten street orphans, runaways, and an abandoned infant—building a highly efficient, secret underground society coin by copper coin. Ten years later, Maomao is abruptly kidnapped and sold into the Rear Palace. Forced to hide her brilliance in the lower-tier sculleries, she quietly adapts, inventing a brilliant pipeline of broken pottery shards and fabric-tied ferns to update her tunnel ledger from inside the imperial cage. But the Inner Court is a pressure cooker of hidden toxins and silent crimes. As Maomao’s hyper-functional and unusual mind "itches" to solve broken equations, it drags her out of anonymity and straight into the glittering trap of the high pavilions; her hidden family refuses to let her chain break.
