Lukas doesn’t know how long he stares at it for. Just that its heady glow had instantly ensnared him, moth-to-flame, the moment he slipped into the treasure room. And then his tired eyes were tracing each mechanical vein and artery through the glare, red filling his vision to the peripherals.
His focus is broken by the heavy groan of the door, the soft patter of footsteps that follow.
