Summary
Thorin finds his nephews, and his burglar, still alive at Ravenhill. He tries to atone for his blunders before the battle.
A huge, imposing shadow circles above, and the wind kicks up again, sending snow scattering between where he sits holding his eldest nephew and where Dwalin stands holding his youngest. He narrows his eyes against the biting sting of the wind and looks up, just as Dwalin does.
“The eagles are here,” he breathes, just as careful talons open and descend upon them.

Summary
Thorin Oakenshield agrees to an alliance of dwarves, men and elves against the enemy approaching Erebor. But he makes some demands and one of them is for Bilbo Baggins to be tried for the theft of the Arkenstone, accordingly to the dwarvish law. Bilbo is taken into Erebor as prisoner and Thorin is going to learn that many things can still be stolen.

So good, so intricate a story: friends to enemies to lovers. I love how angsty it was, how they keep tormenting each other untill there is nothing left to do but sacrifice everything. And i love the paralell of Thorin betraying Bilbo for his own good just like Bilbo did, so angsty

When Thorin summons the company to the Lesser Hall and Bilbo explains what she wants done, there is a long silence, followed by thunderous argument.
“I suppose we shouldn’t have expected better,” Bilbo mutters as Óin and Dwalin bellow at each other.
It’s typical, Thorin thinks, and is disgusted with himself for the rush of fondness he feels.
