Arthur nodded gravely and looked over at Merlin who somehow looked worse than he did seconds ago. "Ok, so he's cursed, but Gaius, you still haven't told me exactly what's wrong. What's wrong with him? How do we help him?"
Gaius, mildly shocked at how quickly he moved on from the fact that magic was involved and straight to Merlin's wellbeing, got straight to the point. "He will experience… vampyrism for the next lunar cycle, sire."

Summary
Arthur Pendragon and Merlin were literally from two different worlds. One is a prince from a great kingdom and the other a common farm boy from the next kingdom over. These two should have never met.

“What happened?”
“The King was apparently level-headed enough to pass a missive to Morgana to have each of the knights filled in on the current situation and have us re-affirm our oaths or be stripped of our knighthood. Once we did so, we were free to return to normal."
“You keep saying the King,” Lance said carefully. “What happened to Arthur?”
“Arthur’s an omega."
“What?”
Leon sighed. “I demanded to know how it could follow the laws for anyone but the crown prince to be on the throne. I told them I wouldn’t reinstate my oaths if the laws I swore to uphold were being ignored. That’s when they told us.”
“Emrys has Arthur in his chambers right now. Apparently he was in heat when the attack happened, which is why he wasn’t on the field. He was using an amulet to hide his designation and pose as an alpha. As soon as Emrys found out he had Arthur locked in his rooms and then went up to join him.”
It had been four days now, who knew how much longer he’d been stuck up there with the newest Tyrant of Camelot.
“The law states that an omega cannot inherit the throne.”
“So by taking Arthur and his heat, Emrys made himself the King of Camelot.”
