Carl didn’t answer. It was an awfully big question for a horse.

He was wearing a green hoodie, dark grey sweatpants (maybe brown?), and his hair was loose over his ears and forehead. He reached forward and pushed back Etho’s sweaty bangs. “And I thought it would be pretty un-cool of me to let my boyfriend sniffle and sneeze alone in his room.”

“I dunno mate, you should ask him,” the Captain said, a little faintly. Tommy’s row of primary feathers twitched under his beady gaze. In his mind, his instincts were shouting at him: showneck showneck tuckfeathers tucktuck, asking him to submit, and he visualized beating the thoughts back with a machete.
“He’s tiny,” the phantom chimed. “He could have slipped through the air vent.”
“Hey,” Tommy snapped, voice hoarse from the stress. He shut his mouth immediately. Talking back to capturers/potential torturers was stupid, what the hell was he thinking?
The phantom brightened. “Oh, Phil, he bites! Can we keep him?”
The Captain—what kind of name was Phil?—glared. “No.” Then his eyes flicked to Tommy’s wings. “… Maybe.”
Or: Tommy just wanted to commit crimes and get bank. SBI see a small, shiny avian and immediately break 13 intergalactic codes to claim him.

“Who did this to you?” the Blood God growls, low and dangerous. And anyone in their right mind would be afraid, would be shitting their pants, but Tommy just flicks his eyes to the floor and mumbles that it doesn’t matter.
Echo hums softly, brushing his fingers gently over the bruises coloring Tommy’s cheek, stopping at the gash over his eyebrow before carding through his hair. Tommy doesn’t mean to lean into the touch, he knows these men are dangerous, are deadly, but he can’t help but feel safe, wrapped up in their brutal care.

this is the best fucking avengers fic I have read in a LONG time. the characterization? beautiful. pacing? flawless. internal and external dialogue? the perfect balance of heartbreaking and hilarious. truly a read I would HIGHLY recommend!

After a lifetime of being ignored, Clint's gotten good at demanding attention. He'll annoy and frustrate and piss everyone off until they notice him. To him, any attention—even the negative kind—is good attention.
This poses a problem when they all finally learn to just ignore him.
