It starts small, just little things that Robby hardly registers at first. It’s a busy day, it’s been a busy week, so when it vaguely ticks that Dennis is a little quieter than usual during rounds, fumbling his notes, missing cues he normally catches, he doesn’t actually think twice about it.
Nor how when Robby asks him a question about a patient’s chart, and Dennis blinks like he’s been startled awake.
It’s only when Robby looks, really looks, that he notices that something is… off.Actually off.

He drops his bag just inside the entryway and throws himself forward, arms going around Robby first as he reaches a hand out to grab at Jack, clumsy and wholehearted and more than a little desperate. He presses his face into Robby’s shoulder, breathing him in as deeply as he can, desperate to coat himself in their scents. In them.
“Oh,” Jack says softly, arms coming around him without hesitation. “We missed you too, sweetheart.”

The rough voice belonged to none other than Dr Jack Abbot - the older man dressed head to toe in tactical SWAT gear, camo layers sitting tightly across his chest. His salt-and-pepper curls were tousled in the wind, blue eyes twinkling with amusement, loosening a lascivious smirk that only grew (and definitely meant trouble) as he bent down slightly to assess the situation in which Dennis had managed to land himself.

While Whitaker tries to insist otherwise, Jack eventually convinces Whitaker to spend the night at his apartment. He isn't sure if he'll be able to convince Whitaker of a more permanent solution to this, but at the very least, he's not going to melt in the rain overnight. As Whitaker prepares for bed, Dr. Robby decides to bring his long-term boyfriend some bagels and coffee.

And Jack, God help him, is still in the corridor struggling with a pair of gloves.

Chaka Khan’s music is nothing like the chaos was he just subjected to, nothing like the thick scent of fear in the air and shoutings from his attendings that all blurred into one big sound that ricocheted around his brain until all he could focus on was the medicine, and the upbeat tune of Like Sugar is no expectation.
Dennis scrunches the side of his face to keep his outdated AirPod from falling out of his ear as he slides backwards out of the attached bathroom, letting his heel spin against the smooth tile, twisting his torso into a twirl that matches with the rhythm of the song. He brings his hands up to stick two fingers right behind his ears, lost for just a moment in the beat, and he faces the half open door of the room he’s sequestered himself in.
And instead of the flickering lights of the hallway, he finds himself face to face with none other than Dr. Michael Robinavitch.
