    Summary

His quick hookup should have ended with a casual goodbye. But Shane Hollander turns out to be possibly the most dangerous thing Ilya has ever done, and there's something intoxicating about the way Shane melts underneath him.

He can't have anything Shane represents, and he isn't supposed to ask, "Can I stay?" but he does anyway.

    ~*~

Half of his team has creature-heritage of some kind, but Shane's could end his career. It doesn't matter that he's no more likely than anyone else to lose control and hurt someone. It doesn't matter that the law says he can't be fired for his heritage, or that he's not what anyone would think.

This thing with Ilya is dangerous for him in more ways than one, but Shane can't stop himself from pushing his luck every time Ilya offers him something he's not supposed to have.

    Summary

So turned out that old Vito had had a goomar, an orientale woman no less. The Don had met her before the Great War when he’d been trying to sell extra virgin olive oil to the mom-and-pop eateries between Fifth and Sixth Ave in Koreatown. (Clemenza himself had nothing against a nice bowl of tteokbokki, looked like pasta, tasted nothing like it; sprinkle summathat scallion on top, now there was a meal.) Not only that, but they’d had a son (baptized, at least, sia lodato Gesù Cristo). And, what was more, the Don wanted him brought inside. Brought inside for what, exactly, he wouldn’t say: the Don was so tight-lipped it was amazing a cigar could even get in there. And Clemenza was to mentor the boy. Hudson, his name was. “Like the river?” Tessio had asked, bewildered; Clemenza had shrugged. Who the fuck knew. Good river, the Hudson. Had kept many of Clemenza’s bodies hidden over the years.

    Summary

“Hollander’s Metros have had a challenging few years, with back-to-back knee injuries and a concussion keeping the two-time Stanley Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist off the ice for three consecutive postseason runs. Hollander is apparently back to fighting trim, but everyone’s wondering if that will still be true come April. The Metros have promised that they’re behind their franchise star one hundred percent, but there are signs they might be hedging their bets. The Metros announced last week that they have penned a deal with San Francisco’s dynamic young Russian star, center Ilya Rozanov. The move has sent shockwaves through MLH, as San Francisco was widely expected to sign a contract extension with Rozanov, who became a restricted free agent in June.”

Then. After the face off, after he's hit from behind, sliding across the ice, an explosion of pain and confusion. Once everything goes dark and confused, he's there, too. Il y a Ilya, il y a aucunne secondes. Il n'y a pas jamais qu'Ilya.

There's talking, and he's being moved, strapped down, lifted, jostled carefully, rolled.

"He's gonna worry," dribbles out of his mouth.

"Your coach called your dad," one of the medics says calmly.

"Not him," Shane feels slide through his teeth. "Ilya."

In which Shane Hollander is personally victimized by the French language.
