Summary
The first thing that I saw was the sign.
It stood at the side of a perfectly paved two-lane road, surrounded by neatly trimmed grass and a bed of little flowers that were so uniformly spaced they looked like someone had measured the distance between each one with a ruler.
WELCOME TO PLEASANTVILLE! stretched across the wooden sign in cheerful, bright pink letters and right below it, in a smaller script, read, A Nice Place to Call Home.
Beyond the sign a road sloped gently downward through scattered houses and trees towards what appeared to be a small American town. Not a Dungeon settlement made to resemble one, either. No crooked buildings packed together to maximize ambush points, no enormous walls or looming shapes of Club Vanquisher or the Desperado Club, no conveniently placed structures that screamed Quest Point or Boss Chamber. Just... houses, telephone poles, sidewalks. In the distance I could see a church steeple rising above a small patch of trees in the distance.
