“No,” Not-Alex says, tone almost soothing. “You’re special, Michael. I can tell.” He reaches out with his free hand to brush against Michael’s face, and Michael jerks himself away from the cold touch.
“What are you?” Michael asks. He hates how frightened he sounds. If he can get out of this, he’ll never drive for Uber again.
“My name is David,” he says, which doesn’t answer Michael’s question at all.

David picked up Michael’s hand and brought it in front of his own face, stretching each finger, comparing the sizes of their palms. “Did you miss me?”
