It was his trust that doomed him, as a vibroblade sunk deep into the hinging joint of his still-pivoting wing.

There is more sun in the room than he remembers, even though he has witnessed the gradual increase in luminosity as the hours passed and sleep kept eluding him; he estimates it is probably around late morning now. The voices coming from outside his door aren’t too clear to make out who exactly is pestering him, but it seems easy enough to guess.
“Professor?” Someone else calls out. “Professor Sycamore?”
Augustine sighs. He doesn’t really want to move right now.
