Peter didn’t know how much time passed before Tony’s dad reflexes kicked in.
He didn’t know how long he was sitting there, hunched over a picnic table, with his head cradled in his hands, but he knew it wasn’t long. Pain made time move slowly, and Tony found him fast.
His and Morgan’s arrival was announced by a soft poke to his side.
“Pete? Are you okay?” asked Morgan. He didn’t respond, didn’t know if he was still capable of producing words. “You were right, dad. Homework ate Peter.”

After May passed, Tony moves Peter into the penthouse. Peter keeps a notebook of what he costs that Tony never asked for. Hot water, square footage, eggs: he writes it all down, costs on the left. Chores and patrols go on the right. Proof he is worth keeping. The two columns never balance, so he cuts more. Tony is busy stitching the world back together. Peter is trying not to be an extra mouth to feed. Love, according to Peter, is something you can revoke the moment the math fails.

Summary
Honestly, someone putting a bullet in his head would probably be preferable to this. He pressed his back into the corner of the room and pulled his knees up toward himself. He leaned forward to rest his head against them and immediately regretted it as the shift in equilibrium did violent things to his stomach. The bitter, acrid taste in his mouth had little to do with the bile rising in his throat and everything to do with the purple flower he'd eaten just a few minutes prior. Like an idiot.
