    “I'm glad you're gonna be there this year,” Jay says offhandedly, floating on his back, “gonna be way more fun,” he turns to face Matt, one eye under the water, one eye above, and he can't read Matt's expression at all.
    “Yeah,” Matt says, before smiling. “Yeah,” he says again, with more fervor, smile getting bigger. “Last time they ever get to break us up.”
    Jay smiles as Matt comes closer, giggling a little as he does, instinctively raising his hands in defense for whatever it is Matt's going to do.

    For most of Adrian’s life, being around Chris was like being flooded by a bright beam of warmth that made the world feel fun and awesome and safe. But when Adrian looks at Peacemaker now, he doesn’t feel that way anymore. He just gets a bad feeling. Like someone turned off all the lights inside him.

    Adrian Chase should be happy to have Chris back from the nazi dimension and to be working at Checkmate with all of his friends. But his relationship with Chris is different since Chris tried to run away to Earth-X, and Adrian struggles with new feelings and a kind of pain that doesn't really seem to heal. There’s no time to figure what any of this means when all the loose threads of Peacemaker’s life choices, including his revenge-driven Earth-X brother, come back to haunt them — and Adrian is obviously the only one who can protect his BFF. Or die trying.
