Summary
Under the weight of Naim’s gaze, Ryan was a boundless thing, forever unspooling like silk ribbon into Naim’s waiting arms. That feeling made him soft, made him complacent and docile and all the things he’d tried to lock away many years ago. It made him vulnerable. Ryan pretended not to know that, but he did know. The thing attached to him knew it, too.

The town had already killed Ryan and Naim the moment they let that healer cross their threshold. A little more violence hardly mattered to them. The manner of Ryan’s devotion definitely didn’t.
