The first visit had been expected. Isabel and Jay Easton. The second was a surprise, but it makes sense, given everything. Catherine fucking knew she had wanted her to kill Marshall. But this - they’re not friends, are they? Alice had been getting close to her just to bring her in, right?
“I mean,” Catherine presses, “You’ve got other cases, and I bet you don’t visit them in prison.”
“Yours is different from my other cases.” Is all Alice says.

Summary
Her mother says she doesn’t have to testify, insists that if it’s too much, she can say no.
But she wanted to be a lawyer, and she remembers her father saying that people always believe eye witness testimony the most.
She also remembers him saying that eye witnesses were notoriously unreliable, that memory changes over time, can distort based simply on how the question is asked - people have sworn up and down that they were telling the truth, right before putting an innocent person in jail. But she can’t think about her dad without wanting to puke, so she asks the tough FBI agent who said she wasn’t going to treat her like a child whether it would help the case, and the agent had made a face like she was biting down on a lemon before admitting that it would.

It’s a regular day when the head of the art theft department calls Astrid into his office. The last bits of Sophie’s case have gotten tied up, and it’s a relief. Astrid doesn’t regret anything, but she’ll sleep easier when she knows she won’t get caught lying.
“Hello.” Astrid says, knocking on the door.
“Come in.” She hears, and she goes inside, sits on the uncomfortable chair before the desk. She would bet almost anything that the chairs are uncomfortable on purpose. “Your report said you ran into Sophie Devereaux.”
