Possibly Cain said something about getting (inheriting) the mark from Lucifer. Maybe Dean galaxy-brained on his own how there is probably a reason for its existence, or just inferred from their track-record how yeah, whatever follows the cure is bound to be worse, if not for him then the world.
Might be that it was all just, too much. Everything. Living. Existence. Emotions. Guilt. Shame.
Whatever the reason, before he could kill Death, sink himself to the bottom of the ocean or get rid of the mark, to the end of season 10 Dean kills himself once more and then as demon promptly does the time warp, since no way would the Sam and Cas duo ever leave him any peace, and while the mark (and the anger) is easier to control/deal with as demon, no doubt the human perspective would aid.- Words:

GENERAL ALATUS FALLING
NOT DOWN THE CHASM BUT FOR LUMINE
NO FR HE FALLS AND HITS THE GROUND HARDER THAN SCARAMOUCHE
Venti: "Uh, Morax? Lumine was found between the hostile souls of the chasm, right? Who- what is she??"
Zhongli: "Yes Barbatos, sometimes I really do wonder what in heaven's name Xiao has unearthed. But even if I sealed her into the chasm again, we both know Xiao would simply dig her back up. And why would I? Lumine's only crimes are being a bit sassy, having no sense for authority, and making my most fierce yaksha fall for her head over heels"
OR: Alternative Universe where Xiao enters the chasm to search for Bosacius, but he finds: A human. She is unconscious, lies on the floor in a white dress, and Xiao is certain he has never seen anyone so beautiful! Of course he rescues her.
Nobody knows who the woman is and due to her amnesia it remains a mystery. She only remembers her name: Lumine.
But Lumine has strange powers and is able to sense certain things she shouldn’t - for starters, why does Mr Zhongli feel so old??

The views are beautiful — a lush rainforest with a massive tree, a vast desert, frozen tundras, a great volcano spewing ash, a great plateau spilling water into the surrounding sea like an overflowing chalice, an archipelago off in the distance, mountain ranges and gorges that seemed to cut into the earth itself, and windswept rolling hills — but he recognizes none of it. After over thirty million recurrences, Phainon knew the lands of Amphoreus like the back of his hand a million times over. The views before him now did not match anything in his memories. And yet, there was a highly peculiar sense of familiarity akin to knowing that he'd seen it before but was utterly unable to recall any specific memory of it.
