Summary
They amble along the highway for what could be any amount of time. Neil reaches over to turn on the radio at some point, leaving it tuned in to Andrew’s usual station. He tries to focus on the faint beat of the music and not the way Neil is looking at him from the passenger seat, trying however successfully to read Andrew’s mind. These days, he might actually be good at it.
It’s an unsettling thought. It shouldn’t be. After all, isn’t that what Andrew has always wanted? To be known? Understood? Believed? Isn’t that why he spent countless parts of himself to belong to families that never really saw him?
Neil is here. Neil sees him.
So why does Andrew feel scraped raw?

Summary
Andrew has always been the one others look to for protection, for saving, for safety. He’s made his share of deals, wielded knives for others, fought battles that weren’t his to fight. Having someone else do the same for him, to want to do the same for him, is a disturbing and frightening prospect. But maybe, just maybe, it doesn’t have to be a bad thing.

Neil channels all of his energy into looking incredibly unbothered, like getting caught crashing a wedding by the groom’s twin-slash-best man was all part of his grand plan.
The other man breaks the silence first. “Who are you?”
Stubbornly, Neil keeps his ass planted on the ground while he racks his brain for the bride’s name. Kate? Kathryn? Katie? Oh, right—“I’m Katelyn’s cousin.”
The best man tilts his head, observes Neil, and says, “No, try again.”
Fuck.

Summary
The outside of Abby’s house, decorated with lights and dusted with snow, is like something off a Christmas card.
The inside is chaos.
Andrew and Neil must be the last ones to the party, or close to it, because more than a dozen college athletes are already packed into Abby’s open-concept kitchen when they arrive. Something smells on the verge of burning and two electric beaters are whirring at once.
So Andrew’s suffering begins.
In which Andrew and Neil attend a holiday party, exchange gifts, and get to have a nice Christmas for once in their goddamn lives.
