Summary
Kageyama's not very good at making friends. Since middle school, since Kitagawa Daiichi — it just doesn't work. He's not good at names or faces, not good at holding back his temper, not good at extending a hand of friendship. Slinking off into isolation at the back of the school is so much easier.
It's a wonder, then, that Hinata worms his way in so easily.

“There- There’s a hot guy in my hospital room and I can’t even spell your name,” Shouyou blabbered, his words slurred. “You probably think I’m stupid. You probably want to go home. I bet you have a girlfriend at home, because you can’t be single,” Shouyou pouted.
Tobio smiled a little mischievously.
“Why can’t I be single, Shou?” He asked impishly.
Shouyou wrinkles his nose. “‘Cause you’re the most beautiful-est man alive. Duh. You’re all… guwaah.”
“I’m not single,” he said.
Shouyou pouted. “I know. You don’t have to rub it in,” he slurred.
“I have a husband. He’s- Ah, he’s about your height, I’d say. He has hair like yours… He’s a bit smarter, though.” Tobio paused, thinking about something. “Only by a bit.” He chuckled to himself like it was an inside joke that only he knew.

Hinata Shouyou gets his tonsils removed and doesn’t know who this beautiful stranger in his hospital room is.

Summary
“What about something like this?” Hinata suggests, turning the book around so that Kageyama can see. The pages that he’s opened to are full of photos of bouquets that all seem to feature one flower prominently – round, cheerful blooms with many tiny little petals, in a variety of different colours.
“They’re nice,” Kageyama offers. “What are they?”
He’s half asking in genuine curiosity and half to see if Hinata actually knows.
“No idea. It begins with C and is too long to pronounce,” Hinata says without hesitation.

When Kageyama Tobio needs a last minute gift for his sister's birthday, he finds himself buying a bouquet from a florist who doesn't know any flower names. But Hinata Shouyou must be good at his job, because Kageyama just keeps coming back to the flower shop.

Summary
They're from classes, introduced by other classmates, and he allows them to take it as far as they want. After the first time, which is gross and uncomfortable, it starts to feel good, to make Kageyama feel like this is okay even if he can't do it with Hinata, will never work up the courage to tell Hinata that he loves his eyes and his smile and his stupid face.

Shouyou’s neck heated up with embarrassment. It was one thing writing it and quite another to have it be repeated back to him. Especially when Kageyama did it like that.

Summary
Tobio braced himself and stood, gathering Hinata’s warm body close. Hinata’s weight settled against him, strengthening the impression he always had at these times: that he was collecting a part of himself, severed by some weird circumstance. In these moments he couldn’t help feeling that Hinata belonged to him, and as long as he didn’t talk about the impression out loud it harmed no one. As it was Hinata mumbled a little, curling into him the way he’d anticipated.
Without a word he carried Hinata to Hinata’s cluttered bedroom and laid him in bed, wrestling blankets out from under him to cover him with. Hinata woke, then, a little, but only to blink at him sleepily and mumble something that sounded like thanks. He turned away, and Tobio returned to his own bedroom, turning off all the lights on the way. That restlessness from earlier threatened to rise up and strangle him.
Living with Hinata was nice—but only most of the time. Only when he didn’t feel like this.

He's resigned himself to being alone, because no one in his life has ever decided they want to get to know him or spend time with him or even like him as more than a casual acquaintance. Tobio's tried time and time again to change that and failed over and over—he doubts it's going to change anytime soon.
But when he sees that orange-haired shrimp staring at him from the gym doors, eyes wide and betrayed, he feels a vague sense of premonition.
