"This is an interesting skill to pick up," Koray murmurs, tongue thick in his mouth, his mind foggy and still. His wrists feel… real. Solid. The rope around them is secure, not tight enough to hurt, and when Koray absently turns his hands in their bonds to feel the drag against his skin, the pleasure it sends has his skin prickling, his scales flaring.
"Hunting teaches you many things, and rope skills are no small part of it." Haurchefant pauses in the middle of another knot, a considering look on his face. "Though I do admit to a perhaps vested interest in tying up my peers when I was younger."

Humanity has been invaded by a precursor race of hypercompetent plant dommes called the Affini, and forcibly given paradise in a post-scarcity culture that heavily prioritizes the care for its protectorates, to the point of drugging and mind-controlling them into a blissful reverie if necessary. For almost everyone this is a vast improvement. All that's required is to give up any silly notions that anyone except for the Affini know what's best for everyone; in many cases the poor things clearly don't.
Chloë Sulla, our protagonist, has been running for too long. Clover Fabaceae, Fourth Bloom has plenty of experience with those who can't slow down. When you finally come face-to-face with the thing you've been trying to avoid all this time, do you have the courage to stop?
