Summary
Overnight, it seemed, everyone in the palace had become an authority on childrearing. Attolia didn’t mind it from her attendants, who tended not to advise so much as gossip freely about things their mothers and sisters had said as they cooed at the babies, but from the old baronesses who had dismissed her as unwomanly and unnatural since her coronation, it rankled.
“Phresine tells me you have already dismissed a nurse,” the king said from the bed as Chloe finished wiping off the queen’s makeup and placed her earrings back in their box.
Attolia was silent for a moment.

Summary
Costis tried to imagine a younger Kamet's reaction to the even younger Eugenides, gleefully suggesting three different kinds of treason. He pictured them both in the palace gardens, under an orange tree.
"You should have seen the way he glared at me," agreed the King, smugly.
Costis' face shows everything, which means that Eugenides knows he was planning to lie in the audience room. They talk about it, sort of.

Summary
The Moon and Coronet was not the finest coffeehouse in Ferria, or the oldest, or the most popular, or in any way superlative. It was close to the university; on this it survived. Irene had kept it alive. She had worked there for seven years and owned it for the last two. It was not what Irene had expected for her life's work.
Irene just wants to make coffee in peace and enjoy the intellectual life of Ferria. When a trio of strangers from the Little Peninsula turn up in her shop, she takes a chance on befriending them. She soon finds out the things you left behind you don't always leave you behind.
