Summary
“It’s alright, if you would like to grow close to him.”
Kakashi knew that Gai wouldn’t accept his reasoning. Gai never entertained Kakashi’s self-loathing, always managing to steer the thoughts into a different, more positive direction. Kakashi was grateful for it.
However, lying wouldn’t get him anywhere either. He bit at his lip, feeling his sharp canines catch on the chapped flesh. He forced himself to breath, relax, and cease the nervous tick usually hidden behind a mask, “It just seems like it might be nice. To be cared for by him.”

“What are you healing?” Kakashi asked, for once unsure of what exactly Umino was up to. Still, the touch was making him melt with how warm it felt against him.
“You.” The answer revealed nothing, but it seemed to be enough nonetheless. “Your chakra pathways feel strained. I’m guessing you have been pushing yourself too far, just by this evidence alone. I’m soothing some of the strain.”
Umino made it seem like what was wrong with Kakashi was just an easy fix. As if healing him would be simple.
“My head hurts.”
“Okay.”
“My hands are bruised.”
“We’ll get to that too.”
“I’m dirty, and exhausted.”
“Then you will shower and sleep here too, if you would like.”
“I’m no good inside. It’s rotten, and cold.”

Summary
Brushing debris off of the note, Iruka gently unfolded it, trying not to rip the damp creases.
"Ukki-san enjoys watering three times a week, gentle dusting of his leaves, and daily haiku readings. He tells me the light from your bedroom window is perfect.
He would like to thank you for taking care of him, and tells me I owe you two favors now.
Back in twelve days.
P.S. A perfect mission report is worth at least four favors, sensei, so think of something else."A henohenomoheji stared at Iruka in place of a signature.

The laughter continued, nearly devolving to wheezing before Kakashi finally recovered sobriety. His eye glittered with unabashed delight. “You buy teas labelled as sweet, but they always turn out bitter, don’t they?” Stunned, Iruka nodded. “You choose what has instant appeal, Iruka-sensei, but you put too much into everything you do. You use water that’s too hot and let it steep too long, which brings out tannins. This tea is made with older, roasted leaves that need heat and time to bring out their flavors. It takes longer, but for you, the result will be worth it.”

Summary
The wires fell away from Sasuke.
“Think hard on whether you can or cannot hold true to what I’ve said,” Kakashi finished.
A hawk cried out above him. He had to leave soon.
Yet, he hesitated.
Sasuke still slumped against the tree, an avalanche of an expression on his face. He did not look like he’d received the words to reconsider his goal of revenge. There was no way Kakashi was going to leave him like this. He couldn’t, not when every cell in his body screamed at him that leaving Sasuke alone now would be one of the worst things he could ever do.
The hawk screeched again.
Who, then? In whose hands could he leave Sasuke? Gai? No, he was too preoccupied with Lee. Tenzo was off the table. The other jounin senseis?
His answer came strolling along around the corner, about to pass under the tree they were in.
Iruka Umino's face scrunched in confusion as he neared the tree, eyes following up the trunk.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Greed was a good look on Iruka; Kakashi never thought he'd like arousing that expression, but as usual, Iruka was an exception.
The memory was swept away with the whip of a passing tree branch against Kakashi's face, opening a thin welt on his cheek. He gave it barely any notice. The closer he got to the village, the more Iruka's presence corporealized until he swore he could see it in the heart of the village, luring him in like the glow of a distant campfire.
Kakashi laughed at himself. How whimsical, yet the novelty to it, untempered by logical restraint or societal dictation, always quickened his heartbeat, drew him to Iruka's solace with an energy frantic enough that, if he could be bothered to be, he would feel embarrassed.
"I wish I could purr," he had said to Pakkun once. Pakkun had gaped at him with disgust and consternation almost enough to curdle his frankness to humiliation, but he couldn't bring himself to take it back. Maybe Iruka had a point about reading Icha Icha in public, but it ceased to hold water when Kakashi's cultivated shamelessness allowed him to enjoy sweet thrills of anticipation until he felt full and satiated."
