“Grace,” Myrta began gently. “What do you have there?”
Grace paused, before extending the object to them instead. It was a plain tube, no bigger than a single claw-digit, with an unidentified smear of... something, resting at the bottom. “Staaar-eat.”
“‘Star-eat’,” Theodor moaned as they picked themself back up. “‘Star-eat’, it says. You let a hatchling into a lab for λλ seconds and it finds unsecured star-killer rolling around the back of a drawer. A single micron from that tube could vapourize the space elevator so thoroughly they wouldn’t even feel a speck of us landing down below.”
“Ah, geez. I should’ve expected that."

Summary
Grace is fed up with being in bed and constantly being ordered around by his medical team.
It's been over five Earth months since the Hail Mary arrived at Erid. Thanks to the ship's extensive collection of literally every piece of human knowledge ever, the Eridians were able to help Grace, but recovery from starvation is a long road. For Grace, it helps to have Rocky and Adrian rooting for him daily and keeping him company, especially since recovery can get pretty boring. He decides he needs some fresh (dome) air, or he is going to lose it.
Or: Grace being a terrible patient.

And so now, here I sit, having been tucked into my bed by a team of alien childcare specialists, having realized that somewhere along the line, someone made some really bad assumptions. Wires were crossed and thoroughly tangled.
I’ll have to sort them out, because otherwise I’ll have botched any future attempts at Eridian-Human diplomacy. A little hard to have interstellar negotiations when the other party keeps trying to play peek-a-boo.

Summary
As he stared down into the lumpy grey goop that was his evening rations, he contemplated whether it was really worth it.
They’d come a very long way just for Grace to give up and die at the last hurdle, both physically and emotionally. The Tau Ceti system was a long, long way away now, and Grace had faced not one but two highly emotional suicide missions. Three, if you counted the time before he was given a military grade roofie and hucked into space without his memories.
Rocky and Grace make it back to Erid! Huzzah!
Now they have to navigate all of... that.
