Looking down at himself he felt nauseated, his arms were no longer arms, but wings made from skin and elongated fingers. How absolutely disgusting. It took him a few seconds to register that despite being a spawn and not a full vampire, he’d apparently just changed into a bat. Which was great. Now he got to die as a flying rat instead.
After an incident with a monster hunter, Astarion finds himself considerably smaller, fluffier, and unwillingly dragged into being cared for by a lonely wizard, who has no idea he's just brought a vampire into his home.

Summary
Astarion should have died that night. In the story we know he did exactly that. Here, things went a little differently and he is very much alive.
However, healing magic has its limitations, and the Astarion who survived is markedly different from the one that fell to the Gur's clubs.
A month into recovery, he's still coming to terms with his loss of independence. Bedbound, partially mute, and being cared for by the same person who saved him in the first place: his mother. Apparently her adventuring days didn't fully end, even after decades of playing at being a proper Upper City wife.
Even worse, soon his beloved father decides caring for Astarion is a waste of time and resources, and tries to convince his mother to send him to... somewhere, anywhere, else.
It's amazing, what you start to notice when you're forced to stop and pay attention to people not named Astarion. So many aspects of his world and family, he now sees all too clearly. Out of the one eye that still works, anyway.

Summary
There is a masquerade set to take place in the icy citadel of Mephistar, hosted by the Archdevil Mephistopheles, attended by all manner of mortals bound to the Hells, and with a grand reveal planned for the last stroke of midnight.
Seven vampire spawn are brought to the ball with orders from their Master to secure prey for him before time runs out. For the spawn in the guise of a star, a dashing stranger disguised as a bronze dragon makes for a very tempting distraction.
One warlock is sent into the festivities with a strange crystal sword, a dragon mask, and orders from both his patron and her mysterious partner to find a vampire spawn and run them through with the blade before the clock strikes. When one of those spawn, glittering with the beauty of the night sky, happens to approach him, it should make things simpler.
Instead, it's only the beginning.
