    Anna pulled her lower lip up between her teeth as she pictured him. Her hands, gloveless, toyed with the white sheets beneath her. They were so soft between her fingers, just like Remy’s hair was. She saw it then, under her porcelain digits: how much it looked like dark chocolate under her familiar Southern sun. She imagined what he’d say to her, lips pressed close to her ear (but never close enough to touch).

    Remy leaves without saying anything (again), and Anna Marie is sick of it. She's sick of how his actions affect her so deeply, and how she can't seem to act like herself when he's gone. She stumbles into her bedroom expecting to fall asleep alone again, but then Remy calls her with an idea of how close they can be when he's so far.
